Coordinate a group or community

Before a group can act together, it has to organise itself: agree on who decides what, how, and by what rules. Most online communities never get this far — they default to one all-powerful admin (what Nathan Schneider calls implicit feudalism). These tools help a group do better, by designing its own governance deliberately.

  • CommunityRule (Media Economies Design Lab) — a simple drag-and-drop web app for designing, editing, and sharing your community’s own governance: its norms for decision-making, stewardship, and culture. It ships with templates, so a group can start from a known pattern rather than a blank page — or the default of handing one person all the power.

More tools will be added here over time. Know one that belongs? Use the “Edit page” link below.
